How To Perfectly Setup Your PS Portal
THE PlayStation Portal is one heck of a portable device, capable of streaming games from your PlayStation 5 and directly from Sony’s servers if you’re a PlayStation Plus member). But you probably already know that if you’ve purchased one for yourself. Instead, you’re probably here to learn the setup process step by step, right? Or to fix any weird issues you might encounter when first turning on the device? Fair enough. Let’s dive into it.
Since most (but not all) games need to be streamed from your PS5, you’ll first want to make sure your console is set up to get the most out of your portal. Here are a few things to eliminate to ensure everything goes well:
Prepare your PlayStation 5
- From the main screen of your PS5, click the gear icon in the upper right corner to access Settings. Next, go to Power saving > Features available in rest mode. Here, enable Stay connected to the Internet. This ensures that you are still able to stream from your PS5 even when it is in rest mode.
- While you’re here, go ahead and enable the Enable PS5 Activation from Network feature so you can turn on your PS5 using the Portal in case you’re away from home and need to do so .
- Just above the power saving setting, you will also see the Remote Play section. Go there and make sure to enable Remote Play to ensure you can connect and stream games from your PS5 to your Portal.
You should also check if your PS5 is up to date. Go to the gear icon on the main screen and navigate to System > System Software > System Software Update & Settings. Once these items are taken care of, it’s time to configure your portal.
Set up your PlayStation Portal
Now that your PS5 is ready to go, let’s power up the Portal and walk through the steps to get you started playing.
- First, you will need to select your preferred language.
- Second, you will be asked to choose your Wi-Fi connection. Connect to the same Wi-Fi connection as your PS5.
- You may be asked to enter your time and time zone. If so, make sure you enter it correctly.
- You may also be asked to update the portal at this time. Connect the device to power so it’s not running on battery, select Download and let it do its thing (this may take a while).
- Once the download is complete, you will finally be instructed to sign in to your PSN account. It is essential that you log in to the same account that you use on your PS5. If you’re already signed into the PS app on your phone, scan the QR code using your phone’s camera to speed things up.
- Once you are all logged in, you will be asked if you consent to the collection of data on the device. It’s entirely your choice. Confirm the data collection or choose to modify it as you wish.
- After all that, you can finally pair the Portal with your PS5. Turn on your PS5, then select “Pair PS5” on the portal. Choose your PS5 on the next screen, then select Continue on the one after that.
- The next screen explains how to navigate the portal a bit, so follow the instructions there.
- Check out Cloud Streaming, which is only available if you have a PlayStation Plus subscription, then select ‘Continue’.
Once everything is said and done, you will be told that everything is set up and ready to go! Now you can connect to your PS5 and start streaming games for some laptop fun!
