Top mobile games of 2024: Jupiter’s pick of the year

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m not a huge fan of the concept of a game of the year list. I can’t tell you what I played in January and the list of games I play, not for work, can be counted on one hand. The list of games I return to regularly is even shorter.

This year I spent time playing a lot of games; Monster Hunter Now, Neopets Faerie Fragments, Pokemon TCG Pocket, and Monument Valley 3 to name a few. But as soon as I get busy, I drop them off.

But 2024 has been fantastic for Pokemon Go in terms of both events around the world and hosting local events for our community. You see, Niantic opened the Community Ambassador program and this year they really tweaked it! As an official Pokemon Go Harlow community ambassador, we have really grown and helped our area over the year.

Niantic challenged Ambassadors to clean up trash in a local area and our community collected donations to food banks, handing out in-game rewards to everyone who participated. We had a fantastic time battling together in Raids, celebrating Shiny captures, and battling Shadow Pokémon. A full 10-day block of events was held each day. Our community feels this; a community of people who enjoy playing together.

Amelia is a huge Pokemon Go lover and Robin has participated in Dynamax Raids, which has added a lot of fun to our family adventures. They also both collect cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket. It’s quite fun to connect with younger members of the family through a common hobby.

I also had the fantastic opportunity to attend Pokemon Go events this year; Go Fest Madrid is a highlight. The whole place was bustling with other coaches, all playing together. It was fun to see some players from my local community as well. Pokemon Worlds, although a card game focused event, was held in London – and once again I had a fantastic time cheering on members of my own community who were engaged in Go Battles against others.

Pokemon Go has become more than a game for me, it’s a community of like-minded people and I love playing with them.
